Determination, Perseverance, and A Little
Push From Your Parents

By Jenna Fogle

I had the great pleasure of attending the 4H Erath County horse show this past Saturday in Stephenville, TX to watch and interview Camilla and Corinne Buchanan. (brrr  it was cold!)

Camilla is the oldest. She’s ten years old. Corinne is eight.

Although these girls are close in age, they could not be more unalike if they tried (that’s what makes them both so unique and beautiful).

Camilla is more like her mom, Shannon Buchanan (more elegant, and careful).
Corinne is more like her dad, Charlie Buchanan (more outspoken and serious).

In between divisions, with what little time they had before they had to be back out in the arena, they would try to warm up their hands as they watched their breath hit the cold, crisp air. All the while both eager and freezing!

Camilla showed in the Senior Registered Mares (Bunny), Senior Registered Geldings (Bear), Senior Grade Gelding (Payday), and Junior Showmanship (Bunny).

Corinne showed in the Novice Showmanship (Bear), Senior Grade Gelding (Roy), and Junior Showmanship (Bear).

Together these girls brought in EIGHT ribbons!!

Camilla placed:
·      Reserve Champion overall in registered geldings with Bear
·      Reserve Champion overall in registered mares with Bunny
·      1st place Senior Registered Mares with Bunny
·      2nd place Senior Registered Geldings with Bear
·      2nd place Senior Grade Geldings with Payday
·      5th place Junior Showmanship

Corinne placed:
·      3rd place in Senior Grade Gelding with Roy
·      8th in Novice Showmanship

This was Corinne’s first year to show. WHAT A WAY TO START!

For Camilla, this was her third year to show. Both girls say they plan to show horses until they are “too old to show”.

Together, Camilla and Corinne, live together, laugh together, love together, fight together, play together, compete together, and they WIN together.

You see, the whole point of 4H shows is not to win (yes, it is a spectacular feeling when you do) but it’s to teach leadership, hard work, teamwork, and dedication.

What makes the Buchanan girls so special and succeed in more than just extra curricular activities, but in their daily lives also, is they both have so much heart, determination, and want.

I can’t wait to see what the future years have in store for these two sisters!

Together they can conquer the world!
